Competencia comunicativa y su relación con el desempeño académico en estudiantes universitarios peruanos

Contexto: la competencia comunicativa constituye un factor determinante en la formación universitaria, pues influye en los procesos de aprendizaje y en los resultados académicos de los estudiantes de educación superior. Objetivo: determinar la relación entre la competencia comunicativa y el desempeño académico en estudiantes de una universidad de Lima, Perú. Metodología: estudio cuantitativo, correlacional, no experimental y transversal con 145 estudiantes seleccionados por muestreo no probabilístico. Se aplicaron cuatro pruebas que evaluaron expresión oral, expresión escrita, comprensión auditiva y comprensión lectora. El desempeño académico se midió por el promedio de calificaciones finales. Se utilizó el coeficiente rho de Spearman con el software SPSS. Resultados: la competencia comunicativa se correlacionó con el desempeño académico (ρ = 0.63, p < 0.01). La comprensión lectora obtuvo la correlación más alta (ρ = 0.62), seguida de la expresión escrita (ρ = 0.58), la comprensión auditiva (ρ = 0.54) y la expresión oral (ρ = 0.48). Conclusión: la competencia comunicativa se asocia de forma significativa y moderada con el desempeño académico, donde la comprensión lectora presenta la mayor fuerza de asociación.
Background: Communicative competence is a determining factor in university education, as it influences learning processes and the academic outcomes of higher education students. Objective: To determine the relationship between communicative competence and academic performance in students at a university in Lima, Peru. Methodology: A quantitative, correlational, non-experimental, and cross-sectional study was conducted with 145 students selected by non-probability sampling. Four tests were administered to assess oral expression, written expression, listening comprehension, and reading comprehension. Academic performance was measured by the final grade point average. Spearman's rho coefficient was used with SPSS software. Results: Communicative competence was correlated with academic performance (ρ = 0.63, p < 0.01). Reading comprehension showed the highest correlation (ρ = 0.62), followed by written expression (ρ = 0.58), listening comprehension (ρ = 0.54), and oral expression (ρ = 0.48). Conclusion: communicative competence is significantly and moderately associated with academic performance, with reading comprehension showing the strongest association.
