Background: Personal autonomy and social participation are important aspects of early childhood development. These dimensions are fundamental for children to act independently at school and at home. Fostering these skills from an early age helps lay the foundation for self-regulation and the development of future social competencies. Objective: To analyze personal autonomy and social participation in three-year-old preschoolers from two public early childhood education institutions in Lima. Methodology: A quantitative, non-experimental, cross-sectional, and descriptive-explanatory study involving a sample of 123 three-year-old children. An observation checklist was used, divided into personal and social components. Results: Regarding overall performance, 56.10% of the children were in the "consolidating" stage, while 43.90% reached the expected level of achievement. The personal component showed a 57.72% achievement rate, whereas the social component stood at 34.96%, a difference of nearly 23 percentage points. Regression analysis showed significance for both components, with the social component coefficient displaying a greater absolute magnitude (B = -1.84; p = 0.001; Exp(B) = 0.16). Specific indicators were not found to be significant. Conclusion: Autonomy in the early years of life follows varying paces, as personal development often precedes social development. The latter-which frequently presents greater challenges-requires daily opportunities for interaction, always accompanied by adult support tailored to the child's needs.
