Benefits of artificial intelligence in foreign language learning: a systematic review
In today's digital world, promoting artificial intelligence (AI) literacy is crucial, as its applications are transforming daily life and the workplace. This research aims to synthesize the benefits of artificial intelligence in foreign language learning. The approach is qualitative, guided by a systematic review of recent evidence (2022–2025), following the PRISMA guidelines. The search was conducted in Scopus, Web of Science, and IEEE Xplore. An initial 299 articles were identified; 176 studies were selected for analysis. The findings reveal five main dimensions of benefits: cognitive/linguistic, pedagogical, motivational/affective, accessibility, and social/collaborative. Among these, cognitive and linguistic benefits were the most frequent, with improvements in vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and comprehension being particularly noteworthy. In conclusion, AI does not act as an isolated resource, but rather as an ecosystem of interdependent benefits that transform language teaching. It is recommended that these technologies be integrated critically and strategically, maximizing their pedagogical value without neglecting the human dimension of learning.
