The significance of the flipped classroom in the development of higher education: a systematic review
The challenges and structural changes in education highlight the importance of new methodological structures such as the flipped classroom, which allows for a more dynamic learning process and evolves the role of university students within their academic training. The objective of this review is to analyze the main trends, benefits, limitations, and future prospects that emerge from research conducted between 2022 and 2025. To search for and select information in academic databases such as Scopus, ERIC, and Google Scholar, search strings were used with the terms “flipped classroom,” “higher education,” and “educación superior.” Finally, 29 studies that met the inclusion and exclusion criteria were selected. The review concludes by showing that the flipped classroom significantly improves engagement, broadens content comprehension, and increases academic performance, provided that it is developed with the appropriate pedagogical planning and resources, representing an effective and flexible alternative to traditional teaching methods.
